Golf, good people and a few big bombs.
Matt Nicholls (AKA Matty Bombs), Australia’s No.1-ranked long-drive golfer.

We love golf.
It’s great for your head, a good excuse to get outside, do something active and, most importantly, have a good yarn with your mates.
We also love good people.
Those two things have led to our partnership with Matt Nicholls (AKA Matty Bombs), Australia’s No.1-ranked long-drive golfer.
Competing domestically and internationally, this legend has hit drives of up to 416m. That’s no easy feat for anyone who knows anything about golf.
We’re proud to be Matty’s Finance Partner, supporting him as he travels the world competing and absolutely sending it!
Being a long-drive athlete means being at the top of your game — focused, prepared and resilient.
We reckon those same qualities are pretty important when it comes to your personal and business finances too.
At Elev8 Finance Group, we take the time to ask the right questions, listen to your circumstances and understand what you’re trying to achieve. We then use our panel of lenders to find a finance solution that fits you — not just a loan that happens to fit.
Big swings. Big goals. The right finance behind you.

Q&A with Matty Bombs
- 01
When did you realise you could really send it on the golf course?
I’d always been a long hitter playing normal golf, but once I started actually measuring my speed and distance and then got into long drive competition, I realised I had something I could genuinely take a long way. Then it became a bit of an obsession 😂
- 02
What’s your longest drive ever?
455 yards (416m) in competition in Colorado.
- 03
How fast can you swing a club?
When everything is moving well I’m around the 150mph mark, with a top clubhead speed of about 155mph. I’ve also been over 230mph ball speed.
- 04
What’s the biggest misconception people have about long-drive athletes?
That it’s just about being strong and swinging as hard as you can. There’s actually a huge amount of technique, timing, athleticism and preparation involved — and you still have to hit the thing straight enough to keep it on the grid at 150+ mph.
- 05
Where’s the best country you’ve competed in and why?
This one is bloody hard because competing around the world has been one of the best parts of long drive. Spain was pretty special — incredible place, great people and getting to compete in a European Championship over there was an unreal experience.
- 06
What’s the strangest fan request you’ve had?
I’ve definitely had a few interesting ones… probably best we keep some of those off the Elev8 website 😂
- 07
Morning ritual: coffee, protein, stretching… leg day?
Coffee is absolutely involved. Then food, mobility, getting the body moving and normally some form of speed or training work. Leg day every day might be stretching the truth slightly 😂
- 08
What’s the most competitive thing about you that has nothing to do with golf?
Pretty much anything that has a winner and a loser. If someone starts keeping score, I suddenly care way too much 😂
- 09
What’s one thing you’ve learned through competing that applies to life outside golf?
Control what you can control and move on quickly from the things you can’t. In long drive you can hit a bad set, lose by a yard or have conditions go against you, but you’ve got to reset and be ready for the next opportunity.

You spend a lot of time working on your physical game — why is it just as important to stay on top of your financial game?
Because the better organised you are financially, the more freedom you have to chase the things that matter to you. Competing internationally isn’t cheap — flights, accommodation, entry fees, training and equipment all add up quickly — so having a plan off the grid is just as important as having one on it.

What’s one financial goal you’re working towards outside of golf?
Building long-term financial security and freedom for my family while continuing to grow Matty Bombs and my coaching business. I want to be able to keep chasing big goals in the sport without sacrificing the future to do it.
Big goals. Bomb finances.
